Wednesday with Sunali Pillay
Su's a headstrong girl. When she came to Rhodes University a few years ago she was a bit apprehensive about living in a small town. Her dad owns the laundromat past the cathedral, but she lived all over the show, with her mum in Durban and holidays with her dad. Then came Rhodes, and English and journalism, but she didn't really get what all the fuss was about. She just couldn't get herself to care about the stuff she was learning about. So she left. She went to the Netherlands where she worked as au pair for a Dutch family. After a year she's back in Grahamstown, and although her environment's still stifling, she has grown up a lot in the past two years. I spoke to her in her bedroom, with the clicking sounds of the laundromat upstairs, and she told me about her travels and her plans for the future.
